Lauder lodge care home project overview
This project entails the design and construction of a three-storey, 60-bedroom care home on a brownfield site. The development involves the demolition of an existing disused car showroom to make way for the new facility. Lauder Lodge Care Home is thoughtfully designed to cater to the needs of its residents, providing a comfortable and engaging environment.
The care home offers a range of amenities and facilities to enhance the quality of life for its residents. These include a café, hairdressers, cinema, library, activity spaces, and a family room. The inclusion of these features aims to create a sense of community and provide opportunities for social interaction and engagement.
One of the key considerations in the design of Lauder Lodge is the focus on dementia-friendly features. The care home boasts sensory gardens that are accessible to all ground floor tenants, providing a peaceful and calming environment. Additionally, there is a dedicated play area for children visitors, promoting intergenerational connections.
The layout of the bedrooms is carefully planned to minimise confusion among the residents. Groupings of bedrooms are strategically organized, and each floor is equipped with its own dining room and quiet room. This thoughtful design ensures that residents can easily navigate their surroundings and feel at ease in their new home.
Residents of Lauder Lodge also have the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, with access to terraces and balconies on the upper levels. These outdoor spaces offer stunning views of Arthur’s Seat and the nearby beach, providing a tranquil retreat for residents to relax and unwind.
The construction of Lauder Lodge utilised traditional load-bearing insulated blockwork and insitu concrete floor slabs. Precast concrete stairs and lift shafts were also incorporated into the design. The external elevations feature a combination of red brick and white rendered clockwork, with vertical zinc cladding on the upper storey. The structure is completed with a single membrane flat roof with deep overhanging eaves, ensuring durability and longevity.
